I never been a fan of getting pigeon holed into a category of human, an age group or listened to the who or what you should be/achieved/done by a certain age.
In my experience, we all get dragged into it at one time or another; that continuous battle with societies boundaries that have been pre-set.
Times are a changing and because I do march or more accurately bounce/dance/wiggle to my own tune, I cling to the sayings, “ 30 is the new 20, 40 the new 30, 50 the new 40.”
Perhaps it’s because this saying feeds my inside spirit of wanting to explore the world, party rock, play, adventure, share, and celebrate this great life of ours.
I often wonder when I will slow down, or act my age and truly hope I never do. When I asked my father (Who is approaching the mid 70’s milestone) if he ever felt this way, he barked out a laugh and said, “ Vanessa, every once in a while I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and wonder who that old guy is!”
As I contemplate turning 40 this summer, I actually am stoked on making it the best decade of my life. To be old enough to have some pretty important life experiences behind me, but to be young and healthy enough to still engage in most things (Perhaps with more icepacks, anti-inflammatory’s and sleep in between.)
So for all you brothers and sisters of the same cloth out there, this is a shout out to you. Seize the day, be aggressive in creating the life you want. Be all your beautiful crazy self, with eyes and heart open to the possibilities within every day.
When you’re on your own true path, life provides. As long as you keep your finger on the pulse of the ever-changing flow and needs of your Self.
